Fine Arts

Participating in fine arts helps students grow academically and foster an appreciation for the arts that they will carry with them into adulthood. At GHS, we are proud to offer a variety of opportunities for our students to explore artistic endeavors.

Our art classes focus on the creation and appreciation of art. Students work with a variety of materials to develop skills in painting, drawing, sculpting, collage, and multimedia projects.

Our band has a rich history of success in both concert and marching programs. We proudly offer the following ensembles to students at GHS.

Ice Band
Ice Band is a performing ensemble that performs with the Grand Rapids Griffins, our local AHL hockey team. This band is a volunteer performing ensemble that performs pop tunes. It is a month-long commitment.

Jazz Band
In Jazz Band, students study and perform music in the jazz genre. This ensemble is comprised of students who have previous jazz band experience or have auditioned. Class meets during zero hour in the band room starting at 6:45 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Marching Band
Our marching band begins rehearsals during the summer to prepare for the sports season. The marching band performs at all home football games, participates in parades, and travels to festivals and competitions each fall. Students must be a member of Symphonic Band to be in Marching Band.

Symphonic Band
This is our concert band. It functions from the end of marching season (early November) throughout the school year. Symphonic Band plays a varied repertoire of music and performs at festivals and concerts at least five times per year. Enrollment is open to all previous band members entering grades 9–12.

Choir students at Grant High School build upon the fundamentals of choral singing including basic vocal techniques, part and ensemble singing, sight-singing, and performance. We perform at multiple concerts every year and participate in music festivals and competitions each spring.

Choir students may also audition and perform for our annual theatre productions.
